The Congress party has kicked off a Sanghatana Srujana Abhiyan in Yadgir district of Karnataka to revamp its grassroots structure. District Congress Committee President Basareddy Anpur announced the move at a press conference in the Press Club on October 27, saying the overhaul follows guidance from the party’s national leadership. After the recent selection of roughly 1,100 district presidents nationwide, the Yadgir unit will now name leaders for frontline cells, vice‑presidents and executive committee posts. Selections will be based on dedication to the party, organisational skill and service record, not on recommendations from influential outsiders. The plan calls for a "mandal" covering every ten gram panchayats and a fifteen‑member committee in each gram panchayat, headed by a designated Congress president, with seats reserved for women and backward‑class members. Campaign observer Pundaleekarao, assisted by co‑observer Sreedevi, will monitor the rollout across the district. Pundaleekarao is set to join a discussion on party affairs on October 29 and will hold consultative meetings in Shahapur and Shorapur constituencies on October 30. He stressed that the drive replaces personal patronage with a merit‑based approach that favours active grassroots workers. Block Congress President Mallikarjun Eti and DCC Secretary Thimmanna Nayak also attended the briefing.
Context
The initiative mirrors a broader push by national Congress leaders to professionalise party structures and reduce the sway of individual politicians in internal appointments, aiming to build a more disciplined and representative organisation at the village level.
