UPDATE - follow-up to Congress launches Sanghatana Srujana Abhiyan drive to strengthen grassroots network in Yadgir district of Karnataka: The Congress party is expanding its Sanghatana Srujana Abhiyana campaign in Karnataka's Yadgir district to focus on frontline units, cell heads, vice-presidents, and executive committee members.
Local Implementation
District Congress Committee President Basareddy Anpur announced the rollout during an October 27 press conference at the Press Club, noting the work follows the national appointment of nearly 1,100 district presidents based on observer reports. Party selections will now prioritize active service and dedication to the cadre over political recommendations from influential figures. Plans include setting up a mandal for every 10 gram panchayats and forming a 15-member committee under a designated president in every gram panchayat to ensure fair representation for women and backward classes.
Campaign Oversight
Campaign observer Pundaleekarao and co-observer Sreedevi are overseeing activities across the district. Pundaleekarao stated the drive shifts away from individual-driven politics by removing the influence of sitting ministers or legislators from office-bearer selection in favor of grassroots merit. Pundaleekarao is scheduled to join discussions on October 29 and hold consultative meetings in the Shahapur and Shorapur Assembly constituencies on October 30, with Block Congress President Mallikarjun Eti and DCC Secretary Thimmanna Nayak also attending the initial press briefing.
Context
Political parties frequently undertake internal restructuring drives to energize ground-level workers and improve coordination between local units and national leadership ahead of future elections. Grassroots committees serve as the primary link for voter outreach and mobilizing support at the village level.
