Jio Financial Services share price dropped by more than one percent during trading as the Reliance-backed Jio Platforms initial public offering made its market debut on the BSE and NSE. The Reliance stock opened at two hundred seven rupees and twenty-four paise on the National Stock Exchange and touched an intraday low of two hundred four rupees and sixteen paise on October twenty-eighth.

Market Debut

The Jio Platforms initial public offering raised thirty thousand two hundred thirteen crore rupees and rewarded successful allottees with a listing gain of about twenty-one percent. Shares opened at one thousand three hundred fifty-eight rupees on both exchanges compared to the upper price band of one thousand one hundred nineteen rupees per equity share. Market experts note that the impact of this public offering on Jio Financial Services is likely to be indirect since telecom and digital services operate on different earnings drivers than financial services.

Financial Results

Jio Financial Services reported a fifty-one percent year-on-year drop in profit after tax to three hundred forty crore rupees for the second quarter of financial year twenty-seven compared to six hundred ninety-five crore rupees in the same period last year. Pre-provisioning operating profit increased eighty-five percent year-on-year to five hundred seventy-four crore rupees. Total income more than doubled with a one hundred thirty-two percent rise to one thousand six hundred ninety-nine crore rupees while net interest income surged one hundred sixty-five percent to six hundred eighty crore rupees.

Expert Advice

Gaurav Garg, Head of Research at Lemonn, advised medium to long-term investors to hold the stock if it matches their risk appetite while suggesting fresh investors enter in phases during price corrections. Mahesh M. Ojha, Vice President of Research and Business Development at Kantilal Chhaganlal Securities, stated that the stock is trading sideways with no clear chart pattern signalling a decisive movement yet.

Context

Large corporate groups often house multiple distinct businesses under separate listed entities, meaning success in one sector like telecom does not automatically guarantee similar financial results in another sector like lending and financial services. Investors typically track core financial metrics such as loan growth and profitability rather than relying solely on group-level market sentiment during major public offerings.
