Indian stock markets dropped sharply on Wednesday as higher crude oil prices worried investors before the US Federal Reserve's policy decision. This drop happened even though Jio Platforms made a strong entry on the stock market to become India's second-most valuable listed company.
Market Drop and Oil Prices
The Sensex fell 995 points, or 1.35 percent, to a low of 72,603.57 during the day. The Nifty dropped 252 points, or 1.1 percent, to 22,497.70. Brent crude prices went up 1.4 percent to $115.40 per barrel after an attack on a Saudi Arabian oil refinery. This attack raised fears about oil supplies and price inflation. V K Vijayakumar from Geojit Investments Limited stated that the market turned very weak. He also mentioned reports of possible US strikes on Iran after the US midterm elections. He pointed out that foreign investors pulled out $19 billion in 2025 and $31 billion so far in 2026. He warned that this heavy selling is starting to hurt India's strong economic base.
Context
Rising crude oil prices hurt the Indian economy because India imports most of its oil needs. When oil costs more, it increases inflation and puts pressure on the country's finances. Market experts often watch global oil rates and foreign investor actions to judge the near-term health of Indian stocks.
