UPDATE - follow-up to Renault Duster Hybrid review: Sets a new benchmark for hybrids: Renault has launched the new Duster Hybrid in India, pricing the Evolution trim at Rs 16.99 lakh and the top Emotion trim at Rs 19.49 lakh ex-showroom.
Powertrain and Performance
According to Rushlane, the vehicle uses an E-Tech 160 system featuring a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine and a 1.4kWh battery, delivering a combined output of 160hp and 208Nm of torque. The setup includes a clutchless dog-clutch transmission with four ratios for the engine and two for the main electric motor. Renault claims a certified mileage of 29kpl and a 0-100kph acceleration time of 9.6 seconds.
Features and Trade-offs
To offset hybrid development costs, Renault dropped ADAS, the 360-degree camera, and the auto-dimming mirror from the production version. Cabin updates include lighter Dune Brown leatherette upholstery, a light headliner, and an illuminated front Duster logo. Boot capacity drops from 518 litres to 372 litres due to the under-floor battery placement.
Context
Strong hybrid vehicles combine an internal combustion engine with an electric motor and battery pack to improve fuel efficiency, particularly in urban stop-and-go driving conditions. This competitive pricing strategy aims to help Renault regain lost ground in the mid-size SUV segment against established rivals.
