The vehicle will be assembled locally at the company's plant in Chakan, Pune. According to Mercedes-Benz, this marks the fastest arrival of a global model as a locally assembled vehicle in India, coming just six months after sales started in Europe.
Performance And Battery
The electric SUV will be sold in India in the 400 4Matic version. Internationally, it features a 94kWh battery pack and delivers a claimed WLTP driving range of 715 kilometres. Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system generates 490hp and 800Nm of torque. This allows the 2.5-tonne vehicle to go from zero to 100kph in a claimed 4.3 seconds. The car supports DC fast charging up to 330kW, which can add up to 300 kilometres of range in 10 minutes. The international version also includes air suspension and 4.5-degree rear-axle steering.
Design And Interior
The exterior features a rounded-edge front grille with illuminated elements, projector LED headlights, and star-shaped LED daytime running lights. The side profile includes flush-fitting door handles, slim wheel arch cladding, and alloy wheels up to 21 inches in size. At the back, it has star-shaped LED taillights linked by a gloss-black trim, an illuminated front logo, and a solid 3D rear badge. An AMG Line version is also available internationally with a sportier design. Inside, the five-seater cabin houses a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, which Mercedes-Benz states is its largest car display yet. This unit combines the driver display, infotainment touchscreen, and passenger display into one screen powered by a fourth-generation interface and a built-in AI assistant. Physical controls remain on the steering wheel and centre console.
Pricing And Rival
The vehicle is expected to carry an ex-showroom price between Rs 80 lakh and Rs 90 lakh. Upon release, it will compete with the BMW iX3 long-wheelbase, which is scheduled for an Indian launch in 2027.
Context
Luxury automotive brands are increasingly shifting towards local assembly for electric models to better manage import duties and price their vehicles competitively in growing markets. Bringing global electric models to domestic plants shortly after international debuts highlights the rising importance of the Indian market in the global automotive landscape.
