TrendingGold and Silver Prices Drop Sharply Across Markets

Precious metal prices have dropped heavily over the past two days alongside a major fall in the Indian stock market. On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold has fallen by 5,000 rupees to reach 1,45,538 rupees per 10 grams, while silver has dropped by more than 10,000 rupees to hit 2,24,500 rupees per kilogram. Downward trends continued in the commodity market, where gold for October 5 futures fell by another 600 rupees and silver dropped by nearly 2,800 rupees. Local reports from Dainik Bhaskar in Ratlam also recorded a single-day drop of 3,500 rupees for silver and 1,800 rupees for gold, with jeweler gold trading at 1,36,210 rupees per 10 grams.

Why Prices Fell

Prices are falling mainly due to high US bond yields, as the 10-year Treasury bond yield stays at high levels. Strong bond markets naturally push down the value of gold and silver. Recent data from the US also points toward another interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve, while crude oil prices remain high.

Global Market Impact

International markets reflected the same pressure as gold fell 4 percent on Monday to reach a seven-week low, while silver dropped by 4.5 percent. Gold currently trades at 4,173.85 dollars per ounce and silver stands at 61.213 dollars per ounce in global trade.

Context

Precious metal prices often drop when US bond yields go up because investors move their money toward fixed income bonds instead of safe-haven metals. Experts always advise consulting a financial planner before making any investment choices in commodities.
