Jharkhand Family Seeks Government Help to Free Son Jailed in Dubai
Reported by Imran Qureshi (Staff Writer) Β· The Hindu - National Β·
Confirmed by a second source: Indian Express - India
A 23-year-old man from Jharkhand's Palamu district has spent four months in a Dubai prison after an attempt to return home for his sister's wedding went wrong. Shashi Kumar Paswan, a resident of Dadra village, is lodged in the Al Rashidiya jail after he left his job without proper notice and paid a tout to arrange his travel back.
Family Appeal
His father, Lalan Paswan, filed a formal application at the Hussainabad police station, urging the Palamu district administration and the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene. Shashi went to the United Arab Emirates in 2025 on a contract to work for a private company in Abu Dhabi. He planned to return for his sister's wedding, which was set for June 26. Police officials stated that Shashi was detained because he missed work for seven straight days, contacted an unauthorised agent, and gave him money while failing to inform his employer properly.
Context
Families facing similar overseas distress often approach local police stations and state authorities to escalate matters through diplomatic channels like the Ministry of External Affairs. Labor regulations in Gulf countries typically require workers to complete formal contract exit procedures, making informal attempts to break contracts through agents legally risky.
