Karnataka BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya has strongly criticized Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge for making abusive remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In an exclusive interview, Siroya claimed that Kharge has lost control of his language after becoming a national leader, adding that such language goes against Karnataka culture and national political traditions.
Reactions and Protests
The controversy erupted after Kharge used a provocative phrase at an event in Patna last week while commenting on protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged voter roll irregularities. The BJP immediately pushed back by announcing national protests, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused Kharge of breaking all norms of decorum. A Bihar BJP worker also filed a police case against the Congress leader.
Vote Theft and Alliances
Siroya dismissed the Congress party's vote theft claims and upcoming November 1 protest as childish. He argued that the BJP's seat count dropped from 282 in 2014 to 240, proving they do not steal votes. Instead, he claimed that the Congress won 99 seats by taking votes and resources from allies like the Samajwadi Party and the DMK. He also expressed strong skepticism regarding reports that Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is in touch with NDA allies like the TDP and JD(U), stating that those parties fully support the Modi government.
Context
Political disputes often center on public remarks made by senior leaders during campaign periods or rallies. Party spokespersons and MPs frequently respond to opposition statements to shape public opinion and defend their leadership. Tensions between national parties remain a regular feature of Indian electoral politics.
