The latest thriller Drishyam 3 has set a major box office record by pulling in 66.7 crore rupees across India on its opening Friday. This figure makes it the biggest opening day collection of lead actor Ajay Devgn's entire career. The strong start also beats several other recent blockbusters, including Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan at 57 crore rupees and Ranbir Kapoor's Animal at 63 crore rupees, while earning an impressive 95 crore rupees globally on day one. A national holiday for Gandhi Jayanti on Friday helped boost ticket sales.

Reactions

Filmmaker Karan Johar shared high praise for the project on social media, calling it enjoyable and fantastic while singling out the acting of Ajay Devgn and Jaideep Ahlawat as outstanding. He also applauded director Abhishek Pathak for his work on the movie. Ajay later shared Karan's online post on his own account. Titled Drishyam: The Conclusion, the movie marks the third and final part of the Hindi franchise, bringing back familiar faces like Tabu, Shriya Saran, and Rajat Kapoor alongside new addition Jaideep Ahlawat.

Background

Unlike the first two Hindi films, which were remakes of Malayalam language originals, this third installment features an entirely original plot created by writer and director Abhishek Pathak. Before moving forward with the script, Ajay Devgn reached out to actor Mohanlal, who starred in the original Malayalam versions, to seek his blessing and ensure a respectful transition into a new narrative direction for the franchise.

Context

Franchise films that build on established suspense plots often see massive early ticket sales because audiences are already familiar with the characters and eager to see how the story resolves. Major holiday release dates also frequently drive up initial theatre turnouts across the country.
