Ajay Devgn's film Drishyam 3 has broken box-office records since opening in theatres on Friday, collecting 66.75 crore rupees net in India on Day 1 according to Sacnilk. Its worldwide gross reached an estimated 95.10 crore rupees on the opening day, marking the biggest opening of Ajay Devgn's career.
Audience Reactions
The film has also sparked debate on social media, with some Malayalam viewers praising the Hindi version over the original Mohanlal films. A Malayalam content creator posted a video admitting that while Malayalam audiences traditionally disliked the Hindi franchise, part three's writing and ending left them in awe. Comments on the video echoed this praise, with one user calling the Hindi version 100 times better than the Malayalam counterpart and another calling the Malayalam version an utter flop. However, other viewers disagreed, stating that no one can match Mohanlal's performance or emotions as Georgekutty.
Background and Approval
Unlike the first two Hindi films which were direct remakes of Mohanlal's Malayalam movies, Drishyam: The Conclusion features an original story and ending. Director Abhishek Pathak previously spoke about taking a different route for the third installment, and Ajay Devgn revealed he sought Mohanlal's approval before choosing this independent direction with a brand-new script.
Context
Film franchises often adapt different storylines for different language audiences to cater to regional tastes and preferences. The Drishyam series has built a massive following across India for its suspenseful plot and family drama elements.
