Actor Sanjay Dutt expressed concern about the current social climate in India, stating that he no longer experiences the same level of peace in the country. During a special episode of Shekhar Tonite hosted by Shekhar Suman, Dutt spoke about the hospitable nature of Indians and shared his wish for earlier, peaceful days to return.

Munna Bhai Persona

Later in the show, the actor stepped into his famous Munna Bhai role for a special segment timed around Gandhi Jayanti. Asked to act as the Prime Minister of India for five minutes, Dutt used the platform to deliver a satirical monologue touching on national leadership, public imagery, and foreign affairs. He joked that he would stay in the country to celebrate his imaginary new role rather than travel abroad, aiming to maintain a direct connection with the public.

Satire and Foreign Policy

During the sketch, Dutt referenced Mahatma Gandhi's three symbolic monkeys and joked about adding a fourth to question actions that go unchecked. He also made a lighthearted comment about reducing the presence of the Prime Minister's photographs in public spaces in favor of Mahatma Gandhi's images and ideas. Shifting to international matters, he addressed US President Donald Trump, whom he referred to as Trump mamu, suggesting that the global leader should adopt Gandhigiri and resolve disputes over tea instead of using threats or missiles.

Context

The monologue drew direct inspiration from the 2006 film Lage Raho Munna Bhai, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, where the lead character uses Mahatma Gandhi's teachings to solve everyday problems. Such television appearances by film stars often blend light entertainment with social commentary, drawing on popular movie personas to engage viewers on current topics.
