Salman Khan and Jio Studios to release Maatrubhumi on December 4 for box office clash with Eetha
Reported by Manish Reddy (Senior Writer) · Bollywood Hungama ·
Actor Salman Khan and Jio Studios have set a December 4 release date for their film Maatrubhumi, setting up a box office clash with the movie Eetha. This follows a recent industry development where Jio Studios exited as the distributor for Eetha, a film produced by Dinesh Vijan and starring Shraddha Kapoor. PVR Pictures subsequently replaced Jio Studios to handle the distribution of Eetha, surprising the film industry due to the frequent past collaborations between Maddock and Jio Studios.
Release Strategy
According to trade sources, Jio Studios delayed their plans after feeling that their initial November 20 release window was not ideal as Ramayana gains momentum. They selected December 4 because it is considered a strong release window that previously worked for films like Pushpa 2, Animal, and Dhurandhar. This date also provides Maatrubhumi a clear two-week run before the release of Avengers: Doomsday. Sources indicate that Jio Studios expects a strong release against the PVR Pictures-distributed Eetha and anticipates a civil and respectful clash.
Film Background
Eetha marks director Laxman Uttekar's return to the big screen following Chhavva. Meanwhile, Maatrubhumi is directed by Apoorva Lakhia, who is well known for his work on Shootout at Lokhandwala. In a separate detail, singer Sajid Khan revealed that Salman Khan recorded the song 'Teri Sexy Beauty' on an empty stomach to achieve a husky voice.
Context
Box office clashes between major Hindi film releases are common during holiday and festive periods when producers compete for prime audience turnout. Release date shifts and distribution changes often happen as studios evaluate competitor schedules and market momentum.
