Box Office Numbers

Ramayana released in theatres on November 5 and set a new record for a pre-Diwali release in India with a strong opening day. The film collected 64.85 crore rupees in India on day one, which made it the fourth-highest opening in Bollywood history. Before its release, advance bookings opened on Dussehra 15 days prior and sold tickets worth 200 crore rupees worldwide. The collections dropped on Friday to 48.05 crore rupees because it was a non-holiday right before the weekend. By 5 PM on Saturday, the film earned 42.57 crore rupees net in India according to the trade website Sacnilk, bringing its three-day total to 155.47 crore rupees. The Kannada version started very slowly despite Yash playing Ravana, but its occupancy rate improved on Saturday.

Comparisons and Cast

Ramayana has beaten the opening-day collections of major blockbusters like Pathaan at 57 crore rupees, Animal at 63 crore rupees, and Drishyam 2 at 62 crore rupees. By the end of its first three days, Adipurush had earned over 200 crore rupees net in India, though its first three days fell on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday while Ramayana opened on a working Thursday followed by Friday and Saturday. The film is expected to cross the 200 crore mark by Sunday. Nitesh Tiwari directed the film, which is an adaptation of Valmiki's epic about Lord Rama, Lord Vishnu's incarnation, fighting the asura king Ravana after he abducts Sita. Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios produced the film with DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, and planned it as a two-part release with the second part scheduled for Diwali 2028. The cast features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.

Context
