BMW has unveiled the iX3 M60 xDrive as the new range-topping performance version of its electric SUV lineup, featuring a dual-motor setup that produces 612 horsepower and 875Nm of torque. According to Autocar UK, the M60 is a full second quicker than the 50 xDrive, accelerating from 0 to 62mph in 3.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 149mph.

Powertrain and Charging

The dual-motor system features a new Gen6 motor at the rear axle, helping the vehicle beat its closest fuel-powered equivalent, the 437bhp X3 M50, by 0.5 seconds in the 0-62mph sprint. Power comes from a 108.7kWh battery pack that supports DC charging speeds up to 400kW. The M60 delivers a combined range of 468 miles on a single charge, which is only slightly lower than the 497-mile range of the standard 50 variant. Order books will open early next year, though pricing has not yet been announced.

Design and Upgrades

Standard M upgrades include adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers, variable sport steering, an M Sport differential, and exclusive M Sport and M Sport Plus driving modes. Cosmetically, the SUV gets M Yellow Lights inspired by BMW's GT race cars, three-part light elements near the blanked-off kidney grille, M-specific mirror caps, black exterior details, and 21-inch M lightweight alloy wheels, with 22-inch wheels offered as an option. The rear features a black diffuser, a distinctive tail-light signature, and an M-specific roof spoiler, while the cabin includes an upgraded M Sport steering wheel and 10-way adjustable sport seats.

Context

Production of the BMW iX3 M60 xDrive is scheduled to begin at the carmaker's plant in Debrecen, Hungary, in the spring of 2027. This model expands BMW's growing family of high-performance electric vehicles as carmakers increasingly look to combine fast acceleration with large battery packs and fast-charging capabilities.
