BSA has introduced two new colour options for the Gold Star 650 motorcycle, bringing the total number of available choices to five. The new variants are named Birmingham Blue and Brooklands Black. The single-tone Birmingham Blue carries a price tag of Rs 3.56 lakh, while the dual-tone Brooklands Black is priced at Rs 3.65 lakh and becomes the new top-end variant in the lineup.

Design Details

The Birmingham Blue shade pays tribute to the city of Birmingham, where the brand started operations in 1861 as the Birmingham Small Arms Company. This colour combines a deep blue tone on the fenders, fuel tank, and side panels with blacked-out parts like the engine casing, wheel rims, and front forks, alongside white pinstriping. The Brooklands Black option features a black and glossy metallic finish with golden pinstriping and a gold-finished badge. This second new colour draws its name from the Brooklands circuit, where racer Wal Handley won a race in June 1937 on a BSA Empire Star and earned a Gold Star badge for crossing 100 mph.

Specifications

No mechanical changes accompany the new paint schemes. A 652 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine powers the motorcycle, generating 45 horsepower and 55 Nm of peak torque. This motor works with a 5-speed transmission. The bike features 41 mm telescopic forks upfront and twin rear shock absorbers with adjustable preload. Stopping duties are handled by 320 mm front and 255 mm rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS as a standard feature, while the machine rides on wire-spoke wheels wrapped in Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres.

Context

Motorcycle manufacturers often introduce new cosmetic updates and special paint schemes to refresh their existing product lines and attract buyers. The BSA Gold Star 650 competes directly against established medium-displacement retro motorcycles in the Indian market, such as the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.
