Replit CEO Amjad Masad told the crowd at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco that AI agents are turning companies into “self‑driving” enterprises, letting humans concentrate on judgment and creative decisions. He said the change has already hit every job in the room over the past year, even though many people still don’t realize it is coming. Masad explained that after AI agents became reliable earlier this year, Replit rewrote its own operations around them. When a support ticket arrives, an agent first scans the related GitHub issue, the codebase and the Linear ticket, then hands a fully‑contextualised summary to a human. The human decides the fix and, with a single click, deploys another agent to apply the patch. Masad stressed that agents do most of the work, but human taste and judgment remain essential. The shift has forced engineers to spend far more time discussing architecture, white‑boarding ideas and choosing what to build, rather than writing routine code. In conversations with other firms, Replit frames AI as a tool that makes work more productive and less boring, promising a happier, more creative workplace. He added that Silicon Valley rarely paints such a positive picture, and Replit hopes to lead that narrative.
Context
AI agents are increasingly handling routine software tasks, a trend that mirrors broader automation efforts across tech. By offloading grunt work, companies can push human talent toward strategic thinking and design.

What Happened
Replit’s chief Amjad Masad explained at the Disrupt conference that the company now runs many routine tasks through autonomous AI agents, while people intervene for decisions that need judgment.
Why It Matters
This shift shows how AI can automate repetitive coding and support work, freeing engineers to focus on higher‑level design and strategy. It signals a broader move in tech where firms rely on software‑driven processes, potentially reshaping job roles and productivity across industries.
What Happens Next
Replit plans to expand the use of agents to more internal functions and is encouraging other businesses to adopt similar AI‑first workflows. Observers will watch whether human oversight remains essential as agents become more capable.
