Thousands of glowing drones lit up the night sky in Mysuru during a grand display at the Torchlight Parade Grounds in Bannimantap on October 17, 2026. Organised by the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation, the event blended modern technology with local traditions to celebrate the annual festival. The aerial show featured a total of 3,500 LED-fitted drones that moved together in sync to create twelve different colourful shapes one after another.

Performances and Key Formations

Before the main aerial display began, vocal artists Indu Nagaraj, Sri Harsha, Vyasaraj, Divya Ramachandra and Aishwarya Rangarajan performed for the gathered audience. The light show itself opened with an aerial picture of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar greeting people for the holiday. The drones then formed various striking images in the dark sky, including a giant peacock, a lion, an elephant carrying the golden howdah, a replica of an elephant and an ambari, and Goddess Chamundeshwari. Other formations included a galaxy, a soldier, a butterfly, a Nandi statue, and religious symbols such as the Sudarshana Chakra and Shiva Tandava. District in-charge Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah officially opened the event alongside several local leaders and officials.

Context

Large public events and cultural festivals in India frequently incorporate modern entertainment technologies like large-scale drone formations to attract crowds and add a contemporary visual element to traditional celebrations. The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation arranged this specific exhibition as part of an effort to set a Guinness World Record with its giant peacock aerial formation. Mysuru Dasara is a major annual celebration in Karnataka that draws large numbers of visitors to witness its traditional processions and cultural programmes.
