UPDATE - follow-up to What to expect from Hyundai Bayon ahead of launch: Hyundai is gearing up to launch its new Bayon midsize SUV on October 26, 2026, with pre-bookings already open and models arriving at dealerships.
Position and Pricing
The Bayon sits below the Creta in Hyundai's lineup, filling the gap between the Venue and the Creta with an expected ex-showroom price ranging from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 14 lakh. At launch, it will use the Creta's 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that puts out 115hp and 144Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. A factory-fitted CNG option with an underbody tank is expected later, making it Hyundai's first CNG model above four metres.
Design and Features
Built on the 'Art of Steel' design language, the Bayon features a crossover shape, split LED headlamps with an 'H' motif, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and a floating roof effect. The interior mimics the Brazil-spec i20 with a black-and-white theme, dual 12.3-inch screens, level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a generative AI assistant.
Context
This launch targets the growing demand for alternative fuel vehicles, as alternative-fuel cars outsold pure petrol cars in August 2026. The Bayon will compete against CNG SUVs like the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder, alongside petrol rivals like the MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq.
