UPDATE - follow-up to What to expect from Hyundai Bayon ahead of October 26 launch?: Hyundai will officially introduce its new Bayon midsize SUV on October 26, 2026, with pre-bookings currently open for an initial token amount of Rs 11,000.
Vehicle Positioning And Engines
Positioned below the Creta in the company's lineup, the model bridges the gap between the Venue and the Creta while squaring off against sub-4-metre SUVs. It utilizes the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol powertrain found in the Creta, producing 115hp and 144Nm of torque. Buyers can pair this motor with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission. Later, the carmaker plans to introduce a factory-fitted CNG kit using an underbody-mounted tank to preserve boot space, making it the brand's first CNG offering above four metres. Expected pricing ranges between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 14 lakh.
Design And Features
Built on the 'Art of Steel' styling philosophy, the crossover features a split headlamp arrangement, 'H'-motif LED DRLs, a radar unit for advanced driver assistance, and 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. Cabin highlights include a black-and-white theme, dual 12.3-inch displays, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a powered driver seat, and a generative AI assistant. Safety provisions encompass over thirty-five standard items including six airbags, electronic stability control, and a Level 2 ADAS suite on top trims.
Context
This vehicle release represents a broader industry trend where carmakers are expanding alternative-fuel options like CNG to lower running costs for budget-conscious buyers. The model targets a competitive segment alongside rival offerings from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota.
