Actor R Madhavan's son, Vedaant, missed a place in the top ten heats during the men's two hundred meter freestyle final at the Asian Games in Tokyo on Wednesday. He finished thirteenth overall after touching the wall in one minute and fifty-two point zero one seconds. Only the ten fastest swimmers moved ahead to the final round, leaving him out of the medal race. This marks his second straight loss at the games. Earlier, he took part in the four by two hundred meters freestyle relay alongside Team India members Sajan Prakash, Sunil Kumar Gowda, and Dhakshan Shashikumar. The group finished ninth out of thirteen competing teams, missing the final spot by just two seconds. Following the results, R Madhavan posted a picture of the swimmers online and referred to them as treasure hunters. He also shared updates on his social media handle to cheer for his son. Vedaant noted on social media that he missed the finals by zero point two seconds and fell short of being the top Indian swimmer by zero point five seconds. He has another event coming up in the two hundred meter backstroke on September twenty-fifth. Speaking about the pressure of his famous family name, Vedaant previously shared that public attention follows performance rather than identity. He also mentioned that he wants to build his own path in swimming for himself and the nation. Earlier, R Madhavan spoke about raising his son with independence and treating him like an adult since childhood. Vedaant has a history in competitive swimming, having secured five gold medals at the Malaysia Invitational Age Group Swimming Championships, plus a gold and a silver at the Danish Open before heading to the Asian Games.
