Shares of the National Stock Exchange of India jumped over five percent during intraday trade on Thursday, September 24, 2026, entering the elite group of the top ten most valued firms by market value. The exchange started trading at 1,800 rupees, which was slightly up by 0.84 percent from its issue price of 1,785 rupees on the BSE. Prices later surged 5.21 percent to reach 1,878 rupees, giving the exchange a total market valuation of 4,54,966.88 crore rupees. ## Ranking Details In the top ten chart based on BSE data, Reliance Industries leads with 16,67,750.07 crore rupees, followed by Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Tata Consultancy Services, Bajaj Finance, Larsen and Toubro, and Life Insurance Corporation of India. NSE stands in the tenth position on this list. It sits just ahead of Hindustan Unilever at 4,54,845.62 crore rupees and Sun Pharma at 4,46,985.57 crore rupees. Meanwhile, peer exchange BSE holds a market valuation of 1,31,946.42 crore rupees. ## IPO Background The massive 22,569-crore-rupee initial public offering of the NSE stands as the country's second-largest public issue. It follows Hyundai Motor India's 27,870-crore-rupee public offer in 2024 and surpasses the Life Insurance Corporation's 21,000-crore-rupee offering from 2022. The share sale received nearly six times subscription on its final day on Monday, September 21, driven by strong demand from institutional buyers. The total demand reached nearly 90,300 crore rupees against the 22,568-crore-rupee issue size. This public issue included an offer for sale of up to 12.64 crore equity shares by existing holders within a price band of 1,700 to 1,785 rupees per share. This listing marks a major milestone after the exchange's plans remained stalled for nearly ten years due to regulatory hurdles, including the co-location controversy. Incorporated in 1992, the exchange received recognition from the Securities and Exchange Board of India in April 1993 and started operations in 1994.
