UPDATE - follow-up to Hyundai Bayon launched at Rs 10 lakh: Hyundai has launched the new Bayon mid-size SUV in India, with prices starting at Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom. The vehicle sits below the Creta in the company lineup and is manufactured at the Chennai facility in both left-hand and right-hand drive configurations for domestic sale and export.
Design and Dimensions
Underpinned by Hyundai's Global K enhanced platform, the Bayon measures 4,245mm in length, 1,810mm in width, and 1,605mm in height with a 2,600mm wheelbase. It features a ground clearance of 205mm and 505 litres of boot space. The exterior adopts the 'Art of Steel' design language, featuring LED projector headlights, L-shaped DRLs, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a dual-tone bumper finish.
Cabin and Features
Inside, the cabin includes a 12.3-inch driver display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen, alongside a vertical HVAC control panel and physical buttons. Comfort features include ventilated front seats, a powered driver seat, a Bose sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and a generative AI voice assistant. Safety equipment comprises Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, all four disc brakes, and electronic stability control.
Engine and Powertrain
Power comes from a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine delivering 115hp and 144Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox that offers an ARAI mileage of 18.6kpl. A CNG variant is scheduled to join the lineup in January next year as the brand's first CNG mid-size SUV in the country, while turbo-petrol and diesel choices are not offered.
Context
Automakers frequently expand their SUV portfolios by introducing models positioned just beneath popular bestsellers to capture different price brackets within the same segment. The mid-size SUV market in India features intense competition among numerous domestic and international brands.
