UPDATE - follow-up to Hyundai Bayon launched at Rs 10 lakh: Hyundai Motor India has launched the new Bayon in the country with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 9,99,900, with customer deliveries beginning immediately.
Design And Dimensions
Built at the company factory in Chennai for domestic buyers and export to more than 50 global markets, the vehicle measures 4,245mm in length, 1,810mm in width, and 1,605mm in height with roof rails. It features a 2,600mm wheelbase, 205mm of ground clearance, and a 505-litre boot. The exterior showcases the company design language with LED projector headlights, L-shaped daytime running lights, flared wheel arches, 17-inch alloy wheels, and pull-type door handles. Positioned directly below the Creta, it competes against models like the Kia Seltos, Tata Sierra, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and MG Astor.
Interior And Features
Inside, the cabin includes two curved 12.3-inch displays for the driver and touchscreen infotainment, alongside ventilated front seats, a powered driver seat, a Bose sound system, and a panoramic sunroof. According to Rushlane, the system integrates generative artificial intelligence powered by Perplexity and SoundHound AI to handle conversational queries in English. Connectivity is handled through Bluelink technology with over-the-air updates.
Safety And Performance
Safety equipment includes six airbags, electronic stability control, all-disc brakes, and a Level 2 ADAS suite with 23 features. The SUV is built on an enhanced platform and is currently undergoing Bharat NCAP crash testing, with results expected by December 2026. Under the hood, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers 115hp and 144Nm of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. A dedicated Dash Boost mode aids overtaking, while a CNG variant is scheduled to join the lineup in January 2027.
Context
This vehicle expands the carmaker presence in the competitive mid-size utility vehicle segment by providing an alternative option alongside the existing Creta. New model introductions of this type typically aim to capture specific buyer preferences through added tech features and diverse fuel choices like petrol and upcoming CNG versions.
