Jio Platforms achieved a strong stock market entry on Wednesday at ₹1,358 per share across the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange, marking a 21.36% gain over its ₹1,119 issue price.
Market Debut
The massive ₹30,200 crore offering set a global milestone by drawing over one crore applications and sealing full subscription within 100 minutes on its opening day. Managing director Akash Ambani expressed deep appreciation at the listing event in Mumbai, attended by family members including Nita Ambani, Mukesh Ambani, Anant Ambani, and Isha Ambani.
Valuation
The enterprise value propelled Jio to become India's second-biggest firm by market capitalization at ₹12.5 lakh crore, overtaking Bharti Airtel. Financial firms hold positive views on the digital services provider, pointing to anticipated tariff bumps around 15%, broader home broadband adoption, and stronger pricing authority. According to Livemint - Markets, the stock also crossed an intraday peak of ₹1,375 on both bourses, surpassing the initial ₹1,350 target set by Motilal Oswal Financial Services. At the same time, analysts pointed out potential downside factors such as heavy sector rivalry, rapid tech shifts, rule changes, and heavy reliance on parent company Reliance Industries Limited.
Context
Large share market listings of massive telecom and digital firms draw intense investor interest because they reflect broader economic trends in consumer data usage and digital spending. When a dominant player lists publicly, it sets new valuation benchmarks for the entire domestic technology sector.
