A Hindu organisation leader has filed a police complaint stating that a large crowd attacked him and his companions in Bengaluru.
The Incident
Nagendrappa T., the 39-year-old district president of Rashtriya Rakshana Pade, stated that an unknown person phoned him on Wednesday morning at around 10 to report that people from Bangladesh were living in Shikaripalya village near Electronics City. He went to the migrant workers' colony at 4:30 p.m. with three associates named Amit, Pavan, and Santosh Karthal. Local workers stopped them and asked why the group kept bothering them with accusations about being foreigners. The complainant said workers threw stones and broken glass at them, and a crowd of roughly 100 unidentified people chased and beat them up.
Police Action and Counter Claims
Officers at the Hebbagodi Police Station took a formal complaint, opened an investigation, held a few individuals, and took their mobile phones. Meanwhile, a migrant worker told the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner a different version of events, claiming that the Hindu activists came to their settlement, labeled them as foreigners, demanded identity papers, beat them, and asked for money. Police records also show that the complainant, Mr. Nagendrappa, faced a prior case in Whitefield for allegedly attacking migrant workers.
Context
Local law enforcement agencies frequently handle disputes involving vigilante groups and migrant communities over identity and residency claims. Police investigate both sides in such clashes to determine the sequence of events and check for unlawful assembly or physical assault.
