Protest March
Student activists took to the streets of Patna on Friday under the banner of the Save Democracy, End Anarchy campaign. The participants gathered at Kargil Chowk to protest against what they described as attempts to weaken democratic systems. Despite heavy rain falling throughout the event, large groups of students and activists traveled from districts across north and south Bihar to join the rally. Demonstrators carried the national tricolor and the flag of their organization. The crowd pushed past police barricades near JP Golambar and marched toward Dak Bungalow Chauraha, where the demonstration ended. Leading the procession were Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad National Secretary Abhay Pratap Singh and newly elected Delhi University Students' Union President Yash Dabas.
Leader Statements
Addressing the assembled students, Mr. Singh criticized efforts to bring about political change through street protests, stating that Indian governments are chosen by ballots rather than mob rule. He warned against anarchy inspired by recent political events in Bangladesh and Nepal, and added that foreign forces should not influence the nation's political path. Mr. Singh also defended the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls as a routine administrative exercise, urging critics to present proof before constitutional bodies instead of questioning the Election Commission of India and the Supreme Court. Mr. Dabas spoke to the crowd about directing the energy of the country's youth toward constructive nation-building, social harmony, and the protection of cultural roots through democratic methods rather than disruptive actions.
Context
Student political organizations frequently organize large street demonstrations to voice their views on national policy and electoral processes. These events often draw participants from multiple regions to coordinate messaging on key governance debates.
