Political commentator and former BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has shifted from news television to reality television by joining the cast of Rise and Fall Season 2. The reality series premiered on Prime Video and MX Player, hosted by Virender Sehwag, and features a total of 15 contestants including actors and influencers.

Entry and Motivation

Shehzad said he decided to join the show after stepping away from active politics to return to the private sector and handle personal financial needs such as paying rent. He credited his faith in Neem Karoli Baba and Hanuman ji for viewing the unexpected offer as a divine sign after seeing a Hanuman Ansh. His departure from the BJP followed a plan that originally aimed for an exit after the 2024 elections, though his stint continued for another two years. He described the exit as an emotional and consensual parting with no bad blood or fallout, adding that he still maintains a deep affection for the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Contestants and Swara Bhasker

On the show, Shehzad will share screen space with public figures like Swara Bhasker, Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Gautam Gulati, Raj Grover, Niharika Tiwari, Kiara Anu, Siwet Tomar, and Sara Gurpal. Addressing his upcoming interactions with Swara Bhasker, Shehzad stated that he is prepared to challenge her views if she brings up topics like the Ram Mandir, Kashmir, or her previous comments on Padmaavat. He said he intends to push back against statements he considers harmful to society, while remaining open to friendly interactions with other participants if house dynamics permit.

Goals and Message

Beyond the competition, Shehzad aims to use the platform to connect with younger audiences, specifically Gen Z, and share perspectives on Indian culture and civilisation using contemporary language. He noted that his years of participating in heated television news debates have adequately prepared him for the constant camera presence and pressures of a 24-hour reality television environment.
