The Arrest
Three suspects involved in the shooting at actor Tiger Shroff's car in Mumbai were arrested on Monday at Rajasthan's Kota railway station. A joint team of the Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force and Kota City Police apprehended the three men while they were travelling on the Pune-Jaipur Express. Police acted on a tip-off from Mumbai Police, setting a trap and searching the train within 15 minutes. The accused had planned to travel to Delhi and then flee to Nepal, according to Kota Superintendent of Police Tejaswani Gautam. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that Mumbai Police would take custody of the suspects after legal formalities.
The Incident
The shooting took place around 7 pm on Sunday near Pushpa Narsee Park in Mumbai's Vile Parle area. Three assailants fired five rounds at the vehicle as Shroff was leaving in his car. Shroff escaped without injury, but his driver, Firdosh, and a bystander, Umesh Chavan, sustained bullet injuries. Police recovered the abandoned two-wheeler used in the attack near Andheri railway station after tracing CCTV footage. Investigators found that the suspects had fled towards Surat before boarding the Pune-Jaipur train.
Suspect Details and Gang Links
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rehan from Sonipat in Haryana, Hritik Kurmi from Begusarai in Bihar who worked as a bike taxi rider, and a minor from Haryana. Preliminary questioning revealed that Rehan was in contact with gangster Anil Pandit, who is allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Two alleged gang operatives, Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu, previously claimed responsibility for the shooting in social media posts. The suspects were collectively paid βΉ50,000 in advance for the attack. Police have not yet recovered the weapons used in the shooting.
Context
High-profile celebrity targeted attacks in major Indian cities often draw immediate inter-state police coordination, as suspects attempt to cross borders into neighbouring countries or states with lax documentation requirements. The involvement of organized crime syndicates in extortion and contract shootings highlights the growing nexus between local operatives and larger criminal networks operating across multiple states.
