Market Opening
Indian stock markets are likely to open on a negative note as the GIFT Nifty signals a muted start for Wednesday, 28 October, trading around the 22,749 level, down nearly 62.50 points or 0.27 percent from the previous close. Today marks a major event in the primary market with the Reliance-backed Jio Platforms IPO making its stock market debut. Meanwhile, Asian markets traded broadly higher on Wednesday, and US stock futures extended gains for a second session ahead of the US Federal Reserve policy decision.
Expert Outlook
Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, Founder and CEO of HST Wealth, noted that Indian equities are likely to open cautiously lower with GIFT Nifty near 22,685, adding that opening weakness may stay contained if Nifty holds 22,550. On Tuesday, benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty ended nearly flat after a volatile session driven by profit booking in IT and banking shares alongside high crude oil prices. The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 8.08 points or 0.01 percent to settle at 73,598.67, with 17 stocks advancing and 12 declining. The NSE Nifty edged down 3.45 points or 0.02 percent to close at 22,749.75. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, stated that sectoral performance was mixed with buying in pharmaceuticals, media, automobiles, chemicals, and realty offsetting losses in cement and IT stocks.
Technical Levels
Sachin Gupta, VP of Technical Research at Choice Equity Broking, stated that the Sensex trades in a defined range with 73,000 to 73,200 as immediate support and 73,750 to 74,000 as resistance. Vatsal Bhuva, Technical Analyst at LKP Securities, noted that Nifty closed above its 20 DMA and 200 WMA, indicating lower-level buying support, while setting 22,600 as immediate support and 22,800 as resistance.
Global Markets
Globally, Wall Street rallied for a second consecutive session on Tuesday, led by semiconductor and chipmaker stocks. The S&P 500 advanced 0.6 percent, the Nasdaq Composite gained 1.2 percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished nearly unchanged due to an 11 percent plunge in Boeing shares. In Asia, South Korea's Kospi surged 4.93 percent to 5,917.21, prompting a buy-side sidecar mechanism. Japan's Nikkei 225 rose over 1 percent to 64,012.40, the Topix rose 0.32 percent, and Taiwan's Taiex index climbed up to 1.69 percent to 46,874.50.
Context
Stock market indices fluctuate daily based on corporate events, investor profit-booking, and macroeconomic announcements like central bank interest rate decisions. Technical support and resistance levels help traders gauge price boundaries where buying or selling pressure is likely to emerge.
