UPDATE - follow-up to Renault Duster Hybrid review: Sets a new benchmark for hybrids: Renault has launched the Duster Hybrid in India with aggressive pricing starting at Rs 16.99 lakh for the Evolution trim, while the top-spec Emotion variant reaches Rs 19.49 lakh ex-showroom.

Powertrain And Performance

Under the hood, the vehicle packs an E-Tech 160 powertrain featuring a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine paired with a 1.4kWh battery. The system delivers a combined output of 160hp and a peak motor torque of 208Nm, paired with a clutchless dog-clutch transmission with four ratios for the engine and two for the motor. According to official figures, it achieves a certified mileage of 29kpl and hits 0-100kph in 9.6 seconds. Rushlane notes that the lineup includes three trims named Evolution, Techno, and Emotion.

Cabin And Equipment

Inside, the cabin features lighter Dune Brown leatherette upholstery and a matching headliner to replace the dark interior of previous variants. To offset the hybrid's production costs, Renault has removed ADAS, the 360-degree camera, and the auto-dimming rear-view mirror from the vehicle. Boot space is reduced from 518 litres to 372 litres due to the under-floor battery, and the car comes with a puncture repair kit instead of a traditional spare wheel, though a space-saver is sold separately.

Warranty And Support

To build buyer confidence following earlier sluggish sales, Renault is offering a standard seven-year warranty on the entire car and an eight-year warranty specifically for the battery pack. The vehicle also features newly tuned suspension with Frequency Dependent Damping units and retuned steering to handle the roughly 100kg weight increase over standard petrol models.

Context

This launch serves as Renault's major push to capture the competitive mid-size hybrid SUV market dominated by models from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. By introducing a larger engine and advanced hybrid technology, the company aims to win back loyal diesel fans who previously felt alienated by standard petrol options.
