The Indian stock market is expected to open lower today, as GIFT Nifty futures indicate a weak start for domestic benchmark indices. In the previous session, Sensex and Nifty ended flat following profit booking in IT and banking shares, crude oil price pressures, and caution ahead of the US Federal Reserve decision.
Market Debuts And Results
Reliance-backed Jio Platforms is making its stock market debut today on the NSE and BSE after raising nearly ₹30,200 crore through its initial public offering, marking the largest public issue in India's market history. Meanwhile, a host of major companies are scheduled to release their quarterly results today, including Hindustan Unilever, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Adani Enterprises, TVS Motor Company, Hyundai Motor India, Hero MotoCorp, Meesho, and Vedanta. Reliance Industries shares will also be in focus as its board prepares to meet to consider September-quarter financial results and a fund-raising proposal through non-convertible debentures.
Corporate Earnings
Several firms have already reported their financial performance for the quarter ended September 30. Larsen & Toubro posted a 33% year-on-year increase in consolidated profit after tax to ₹5,202 crore. Tata Capital reported a 51% jump in consolidated net profit to ₹1,660 crore, helped by loan expansion, higher interest income, and lower credit costs. Bajaj Auto recorded a 35% rise in profit after tax to ₹3,354 crore, achieving its highest-ever quarterly revenue due to strong domestic and export demand. Conversely, Waaree Energies reported a 14.7% decline in net profit to ₹718.68 crore, while VISL posted a narrower loss of ₹324 crore compared to the previous year.
Context
Stock market performance is heavily influenced by corporate earnings announcements and major initial public offerings, which drive investor sentiment across different sectors. Quarterly financial results provide a clear window into corporate health, loan growth, and consumer demand trends within the wider economy.
